Spring Fever

All winter I have been wanting a white leather motorcycle jacket for spring. I saw them everywhere and had an almost feverish need to make one. It's not my usual style but I thought of so many ways that I could wear it and it's good to try out a new things. Right? Or is it just good to have a new spring jacket??  I had this Kwik Sew pattern in my stash but alas no white leather, real or faux could be found but while wandering through the drapery fabrics one day, I came across this textured white fabric. ( I seem to think that the drapery department has all the good stuff) Love at first sight! I knew that I had found the perfect fabric for my jacket. I picked up some Bemberg to line it and off I went...

My Review: 

Pattern:  Kwik Sew 3764

Fabric used: A textured drapery fabric of unknown content. (at least to me it is unknown) Bemberg for the lining. 

Instructions: The instructions were straight forward and it was a fairly easy make other than searching for some time for a lost facing piece.... which I did manage to find...eventually.

Changes I made: I made a variation of the two jackets combined...View A... without the sleeve zippers and shoulder epaulets. My shoulders do not need anymore accentuation. I had to take it in through the sleeves and torso. This jacket is not lined but I drafted a lining for it, making it easier to slide on and off. 

Repeat worthy? Yes. Except that I would make it a size...maybe two sizes...smaller. I really need to get a handle on this sizing thing. I almost always decide on a size that is too big.

That one wee snap gave me so much anxiety...some sewists fear the zipper but I fear the snap! It took me a week and a couple of trial runs to work up the courage to tackle that thing!

Well, I finally cured my feverish need for this jacket and I'm sure to be seen wearing it daily. Yeah...I love that much.

Me Made May '14 and My Missing Wardrobe

So..here we are again..May 1st. The significance of this for anyone who may not know, it's time for Zo's Me Made May challenge. An entire month of wearing garments I have made! Last year was my first time participating and I loved every minute of it! I made new friends that I have never met but would love to and May was a month of wearing all my own makes, which felt so great. I also blogged everyday for the month as a personal goal as a new blogger. This year I have decided to only blog about MMM'14 once a week unless I am wearing a new, never before seen piece.  

Last year I was so prepared ahead of time with my garments and my Flickr page at the ready. This year is different story though...at 10:15 pm (ish) the night before... I remembered that I had to request an invite to the Flickr page. Oops. And about the same time I  brought out my spring and summer clothes... hmm. Last minute Margo could be my new nickname. Oh well. 

As I was hanging up my me-mades, I was taking stock of what I had and noticing what items are lacking or missing in my self made wardrobe. Namely, pants... or trousers as some of you call them. Last year I'm pretty sure that I vowed to make more pants but alas I'm am always drawn to pretty dresses and skirts. Lots of skirts... I think I sense a new summer challenge in the works... a Pant Parade.

In the process of taking inventory, I noticed that something else was missing! This dress! Gasp!

I am now on the hunt for this green beauty. Hopefully I will find it or the culprit who has it before the end of the month! Happy Me Made May everyone! I'll be stalking you all over on Flickr!

360 Degrees of Hot Pink

Why in the world have I waited this long to make a circle skirt? This thing makes me want to dance. All. The. Time. Ask my family...I may be driving them nuts as I swish around in this skirt. Some things you just never outgrow...and twirly skirts are one of them. 

My Review: 

Pattern:  Newlook 6056

Fabric used: 'Arabella' polyester suiting in the hottest of hot pinks.

Instructions: Easy! Circle skirts are very easy to make.

Changes I made: The only change I made was putting in an invisible zipper right to the top of the waistband. 

Repeat worthy? Yes! I already bought more of this fabric in another color! This will be another TNT pattern for me.

In these pictures I am wearing it with two different tops, I wore the sweater when I ran out to catch the sunshine for pictures but I actually wore the blouse when I went out for the day. I also think this skirt will look great with a pop of white for the summer. A neutral color like grey would be nice as well. Or if I dared...my hot yellow blouse! So many options to consider with Me Made May coming up.
