Cobalt Blue

Remember this bright pink skirt? I made it back in the spring from a floaty Arabella polyester. I loved the drape and feel of this fabric so much that when it went on sale I bought it in quite a few colors. Pink, black, navy, yellow and this cobalt blue! I always knew that I would make the blue into a half circle skirt and when I saw this skirt from ASOS, I was sure.

I used Newlook 6056. I didn't make it a true midi skirt because I'm not sure the length would look good on me...but I kinda wish that I had tried it. If I had it over...

When you make something for yourself, do you take risks or do you for the most part play it safe?

  1. I consider everything I make a risk. ha! I like this length though as I'm not a midi fan. Lovely color!

    1. Thanks Shanni! I guess it is always a risk when we make something ourselves.

  2. I'm with Shanni! lool I love the drape of the skirt. Did you hem it with bias binding?

    1. Thanks Tasha! No I didn't hem it with bias binding, I just serged it after I let it hang awhile then hand hemmed it. I suppose it would take a lot of binding to do a hem that long!

  3. I'm with Shanni too - every time I put something through my serger I take a risk LOL. I love the colour of this skirt (I love the pink one too) and I think the length you chose is perfect. I'm a bit afraid of midi skirts too - I'm just too short and I think they emphasize that.

    1. Serging can be risky business! Midi's are a bit tricky... maxi skirts are great on all heights but not midi's.

  4. What a great idea to buy the same fabric in different colors. Your skirt looks beautiful, almost makes me want to make one, although I very rarely wear skirts :)

  5. Truly perfect. The way you styled it just look so modern, whereas this kind of skirt can easily look vintage. Love it.

  6. Perfect, you can really wear a circle skirt. Might have to copy you and put in an order at EOS from some of their cobalt matte hybrid.

  7. I am pretty sure that a longer skirt would look as good on you as this one does. :-)

  8. I think you should make a midi skirt to find out how you like it! You ca always hem it shorter later! This looks great on you - love the colour!

    1. Yes you are right! I just hate doing things twice. Especially hemming such a long hem!! I think will make a midi in red.....kind of a French flair in red with a striped top??

  9. Looks great. I keep trying midi skirts then shortening them. At 5'3" it feels like a lot of fabric! I am convinced if I found a soft enough fabric it could work, as the length looks rather elegant on others. I bet you could carry it off :)

  10. I take risks sometimes with things I think I could fix if they don't work out. I think with midis it's easy because you can just hem them if they are too long and you don't like it.

I love the skirt and think you should give the longer length a go next time - just to see if you like it.
