MMM Day 19 Run Run Run

Tank: self made Shorts: Lululemon Jacket:Champion Sneakers:Asics

I had a great day today! Ran a half marathon with a great friend in my great city, all while wearing a self made tee. I drafted it from another tee that I liked, but basically just winged it. I'm thinking that I wouldn't make another for running though. The shirts I buy are made of  fabrics that perform better, have softer inside finishes than I am able to make so far. If I could find better fabrics...then maybe.

I'll say it again...GREAT DAY!

MMM Day 14 Stripe Addict

Can you tell that I really love this new tee?
If I am addicted to anything...it would have to be stripes. I didn't fully realize this until doing this challenge. Here I have made another self drafted tee. I'm getting addicted to making these too. I love the classic look of stripes and this pink and white feels fresh. I think that this will be a frequent repeat in my outfit rotation.

Handsome, this pic is for you.

MMM Day 10 Sewing Space

T shirt:self-made Jeans:Merona thrifted&refashioned to skinnies Cardigan:Mercer&Madison
 Shoes:Denver Hayes

A sneak peek of my current project.

Today's theme in the Me Made May challenge is a picture of our sewing space. We have outgrown our home just a little.... so my sewing space has been relocated to the front entry..yes that is my front door. Our living room is to the right of the picture and I use the dining room table to cut. I drag my ironing board in and out daily and my stash is stored in bins in the basement. The pros of this space is that I have to be tidy and organized but the con is that is soooo hard for someone like me who is a natural slob during the creating process. Like seriously...a slob!! (I cleaned up for this pic)
Husband and I argue about finishing a sewing space in the basement for me... he wants to and I would prefer to wait...the house will sadly be too big for us once again and I will have my pick of many lovely rooms. For now, I'll enjoy being in the center of the house where our teens can easily find me and sit and chat with me while I sew.

MMM Day 3 Nautical

Friday's are themed for this challenge, adding just another element of fun and creativity to the mix. Today's theme is water. Yeah! I am blessed to live on the water, specifically the Atlantic Ocean kind of water. Waking up to a beautiful view everyday. So naturally, my mind went to a nautical theme. And as luck would have it, I just made this striped T.

Please disregard the sleepy eyes, this was taken at 6:30 am before heading to the airport.

T-shirt:self made Jeans:Talbots (thrifted)
Trench:Vertigo Paris(thrifted)
Scarf: thrifted Shoes: Payless (old) Lobster Belt: J Crew (thrifted)

I have never been a big fan of sewing knits but I may have changed my mind after making this top. I found this Hampton knit, a little more expensive than I am usually comfortable with but it felt so nice and it was striped. I love stripes! After being unsuccessful in finding a T-shirt pattern that I liked, I decided to sacrifice a beloved boatneck T for this project. I liked the cut and fit of the T but the fabric was thin and not in the nice soft, thin way. It got the chop!

After a few test runs on scraps, I found the settings on my sewing machine that works best for knits. A VERY narrow zigzag worked better for me than the knit stitch programmed into my machine. I proceeded to sew it up and serge my seam allowances. When it came to the hem, using a twin needle for knits worked beautifully. Everything just sort of came together that day. Don't you just love when that happens?

Looking at this outfit, I think it has a very Parisian feel to it. If the next theme is Paris...I'm ready!
