Fall Maxi

After my fiasco with the green pants, I felt that I had to redeem myself. My confidence required it! So, I pulled out this dress. It was another one of my unfinished projects... don't judge you know you know you have them too. Right? Right?

I  used a vintage pattern I picked up at a thrift shop. It is Butterick 6840. I really like vintage patterns. I know that some people are against actually using them in favor of preserving them, but not me, I will happily try them out!

I decided to sew up the sides completely (no slits), shortened the sleeves, and I also took some bulk out of the sleeves so that I didn't look like I was drowning in the dress. When I was getting ready to take pictures, I tried on many belts but nothing I had felt right with it. I quickly whipped up a sash belt and really like that it keeps the 70's feel of the dress.

I'm looking forward to wearing this dress with my boots and leather moto jacket this fall. I could also give it a true boho feel with an over sized sweater or go a little more chic with a blazer. Oh... the possibilities!

I Won't Be Turning My Back On You

There is so much I like about this dress I made back in the spring from NewLook 6067. I love the pattern, the little sleeves, the darts and pleats and of course the pockets I added!  Until I turn around.

When I laid out the pattern pieces, I didn't give much (or any) thought to the fabric pattern placement. This left me with a yellow blob of a flower just above my butt. Nice. I guess it could be worse, with a nice yellow flower adorning each cheek! That would have been funny enough to me that I just might be proud of my mistake. This is just enough to annoy me.

In any case, I will definitely make this dress again (and again). But if you see me leaving the room backwards to hide my butt...just smile and wave, smile and wave.

Cheater Cheater Punkin Eater

The primary purpose of starting this blog was to force myself to sew a project a week...for fun and for practice. To start, I chose this Simplicity 2444 dress. I have made this dress a few times before, so I could be cheating just a little by starting with a familiar pattern but give a lady a break...this is first time I have sewn anything in months. Really.

Besides pockets, I also luuuv stripes and this is a different take on stripes. Tiger stripes maybe? The interesting part of this fabric was deciding how to use it...white on the top and bottom with the dark navy at the waist or.... the opposite with white at the waist? After playing around with the draping I decided that I liked the white starting at the top of the bodice and getting darker as it went down the skirt.
I decided to forgo the neck and armscye facings ( I hate those things flipping to the outside on me). Plus, to be totally honest, I was just being lazy.

I just have to give this skinny little belt some credit...it has been a real trooper this summer! I love the coral color and it seems as though I've worn it with everything. Thank you little belt. You're the best.

A Handsome Favorite

I recently asked husband ( known as Handsome to me) if he had a favorite outfit that I wear...and this is it. And it just so happens that I made this skirt AND had pictures.

I made this from fabric that I thrifted for only $1! Holla! (sorry I couldn't resist)  I wish I had a close up of the fabric because it is beautifully embroidered. It took me a few months to decide what to make with it ...I am so glad I chose this skirt. It has a wide waist band, pleats and pockets.I luuuuv pockets....seriously... love them with all my heart. Too dramatic? Nope. Not at all.

I didn't use a pattern but it was a pretty simple design that I may post a tutorial on in the future.
