I found this hat pattern in a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/bernat-530178-urban-weekend/patterns" target="_blank">Bernat pattern booklet</a>. I have made this hat for my daughters using a lighter yarn that was super cute. This time around I used Loops & Threads Charisma in red. I love the color and thought that the fur pom pom in a brown that matched closely to my hair color would be fun.</div>

Happy New Year everyone! Christmas is now all packed away and like everyone else, I'm looking forward to a new year. I love new beginnings and goals....fitness goals, financial goals, personal growth etc... but when it comes to my sewing, this year I am going to ignore my thoughts about resolutions and goals. yikes! Yup. Let's just wait and see what happens and where my wardrobes needs and more importantly, where creativity leads. I just want to keep sewing fun and enjoyable!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's to blissful ignorance of sewing goals in 2016!</div>

Butterick 6244 has been pretty popular these days.<a href="http://www.stylesewme.com/diy-sleeveless-coat-butterick-6244/" target="_blank"> Eryn from Sew Style Me </a>made an awesome sleeveless version in orange, I love the classic camel color of<a href="http://www.girlsinthegarden.net/2015/12/butterick-6244-coat.html" target="_blank"> Lori's of Girls In The Garden,</a> and <a href="http://frivolousatlast.com/2015/11/13/my-new-plaid-coat/" target="_blank">Frivolous At Last's Lori's plaid version</a> is GORGEOUS! I made this red one back in early November and have worn it so much, I think I wore it for every Christmas shopping excursion I went on. It just seems to be a perfect addition to my wardrobe.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This pattern is a really good staple to have in your collection. The style is a loose one, so of course fit issues are minimal and it is a simple make....although...I did have some trouble with the darts but once I figured that out, I was fine. I couldn't find a good explanation for this at the time but after looking for help on <a href="http://sewingpatternreview.com/">sewingpatternreview.com</a>...to share with you and found a<a href="http://oliverands.com/community/groups/sew-alongs/forum/topic/lisette-b6244-coat-sew-along/" target="_blank"> sewalong for this coat</a> through<a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/118855" target="_blank"> Lori</a>. Thanks Lori!! Go read about the front darts before you start...save yourself the trouble.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For my coat, I used a lightweight basket weave coating. When choosing a fabric for this pattern be sure that either both sides are the same or the wrong side is nice because it will show.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas! We had a gorgeous green one....these pictures look as though they were taken on a lovely fall or spring day but they were in fact, taken just yesterday. It was such a beautiful and warm Boxing Day! Ahh...but that was yesterday...today I'm snuggled up by the fire watching the snow fall. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon either. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I have had a black and white checked skirt on my list to make for quite some time now but really wanted it to be in made in a gorgeous taffeta. Yeah...couldn't find that. Not one to shy away from the drapery department...I snapped up this tabling. Yes, another tablecloth garment! <a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2015/12/merry-christmas-all-way.html" target="_blank">My last one</a> was super fun but has its limits to where it can be worn.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
To make this skirt, I dug out my trusted <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6706-products-44762.php?page_id=113" target="_blank">McCalls 6706</a>. This pattern is quick to make and always lets the fabric be the star. I widened the waistband like I always do and put a pocket in one side. This pattern doesn't have pockets but I always add at least one. </div>

I love this skirt paired with the black lace top and a pop of red in my favorite pumps. This will likely be the last time I can wear it with bare legs until spring but tights and a fitted sweater will look great too. </div>

I believe that a fabric's use shouldn't be limited to its label....a <a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2015/12/merry-christmas-all-way.html" target="_blank">Christmas tablecloth jumpsuit </a>may be a little over the top but I think there are lots of chic possibilities hidden in the drapery department. </div>

Do you shop the drapery section for your apparel sewing?</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LiebEZUPVOQ/VnW6IkW-qPI/AAAAAAAAI88/e-g_7klxKbY/s1600/IMG_7690.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LiebEZUPVOQ/VnW6IkW-qPI/AAAAAAAAI88/e-g_7klxKbY/s640/IMG_7690.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Every year our family has a Christmas party... a themed Christmas party. It all started with the ugly sweaters...but of course we couldn't leave it at that. We have had Redneck, Hawaiian Christmas, 80's...and so it goes on. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This year's theme was "Fancy Pants", which left dressing open to one's own interpretation. Some dressed fancy...and wore their best fancy clothes and then some of us took it to another place and wore "fancy" pants. Obviously, that's where I took it....</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-znoZBECwghw/VnW6CYGuOdI/AAAAAAAAI5I/LYUo-moicIM/s1600/IMG_7672.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-znoZBECwghw/VnW6CYGuOdI/AAAAAAAAI5I/LYUo-moicIM/s640/IMG_7672.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
There are lots of great...as in pretty... Christmas prints out there and I could have gone with one of those but where would the fun be in that?! The day before the party I bought this bordered tablecloth fabric and set out to make <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6083-products-10894.php?page_id=114" target="_blank">McCalls 6083</a>. Pockets and all....yes I did...why?...you ask? Because I can. One of the best things about sewing your own clothes is...you can make ANYTHING you want. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wfMOZMRMM0c/VnW5zb6uvjI/AAAAAAAAI8g/gYi6ShLGmqc/s1600/IMG_7492.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wfMOZMRMM0c/VnW5zb6uvjI/AAAAAAAAI8g/gYi6ShLGmqc/s640/IMG_7492.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Initially, I set out to make just the pant portion of this jumpsuit but then decided to go all the way and make the entire jumpsuit. No reason to hold back. I had made this pattern before so I knew that I had to only lengthen the bodice and I added some length to the leg. I found<a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2015/09/jumping-queuemccalls-6083.html" target="_blank"> my last one</a> a tad too short with my heels. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fl61sPKL_fg/VnW507_sdeI/AAAAAAAAI8o/3T3wrPCdmIQ/s1600/IMG_7510.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fl61sPKL_fg/VnW507_sdeI/AAAAAAAAI8o/3T3wrPCdmIQ/s640/IMG_7510.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VuuR8IeNMmQ/VnW55ztA82I/AAAAAAAAI7g/y97Itt0kWEw/s1600/IMG_7517.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VuuR8IeNMmQ/VnW55ztA82I/AAAAAAAAI7g/y97Itt0kWEw/s640/IMG_7517.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The only attention I paid to pattern placement and matching was the border...I do realize that I have some unfortunate holly leaf placement going on...lol. No one else noticed....and believe me...if they did, they would have told me! They are that kind of family.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VgaGbN5LJwc/VnW6Djo1PrI/AAAAAAAAI7o/-eRMY_BXw9A/s1600/IMG_7678.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VgaGbN5LJwc/VnW6Djo1PrI/AAAAAAAAI7o/-eRMY_BXw9A/s640/IMG_7678.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was a great party...I love you...my crazy fun family. (I'm tearing up as I write this...) Each of you is so special to me. I feel unbelievably blessed to share this life with you all. Thank you for the fun, the love, the shared tears, and the laughter. Oh.....the laughs!!! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love each and every one of you, with all my heart.</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2Tm3TmG0bS8/VlYb3s6BzGI/AAAAAAAAIlE/-vKRyPqGwoA/s1600/IMG_6869.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2Tm3TmG0bS8/VlYb3s6BzGI/AAAAAAAAIlE/-vKRyPqGwoA/s640/IMG_6869.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, here I am again in another coat. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But this time it is one made from the most luxurious butter soft faux suede I have ever laid my hands on. Seriously, the softest. I am pretty sure that real suede wouldn't be as nice and it is the same on both sides too! People! Do you understand that this makes the possibilities endless, endless I tell you!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One of those possibilities is fringe. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Cutting my own fringe still won't leave my brain. Fringe bag, fringe added to boots, fringe skirt, fringe...fringe..fringe ...fringe!!!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found it at <a href="http://fabricville.com/en/" target="_blank">Fabricville</a> and it comes in so many gorgeous colors that it was difficult to choose one. I went back and forth between the navy and the berry colors...many times. Now you are asking...." So why are you wearing a camel colored coat?" I couldn't choose so I went the complete opposite to what would be my typical move. Life calls for that sometimes. It was a decidedly good move... I think.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lR45ShI1BN8/VlYeSa7TQaI/AAAAAAAAIls/FD0Tj2E4TTs/s1600/IMG_6745.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lR45ShI1BN8/VlYeSa7TQaI/AAAAAAAAIls/FD0Tj2E4TTs/s640/IMG_6745.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When it came to a pattern, I chose <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v9069-products-49027.php#.VkPL50pIO0k.pinterest" target="_blank">Vogue 9069</a>. I have been eyeing up the relaxed, oversized coats that are on trend right now and wondered if I could pull it off myself. I decided to go for it, seeing as I had already gone out on a limb and chose the camel color.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GUCeezftmxU/VlYVTxSLLLI/AAAAAAAAIkg/KtAwILSsm1U/s1600/IMG_6785.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GUCeezftmxU/VlYVTxSLLLI/AAAAAAAAIkg/KtAwILSsm1U/s640/IMG_6785.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, you are probably thinking that I completely copied the model garment...well, yes I did but not intentionally. In the store, I flipped through the pattern books and landed on this one but the picture on the envelope is not the same as the model online and if she is in the book...well I didn't see her in her fuzzy camel bathrobe. If I did, I would have changed my mind. Guaranteed. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g1axExot4EM/VlYcCV4zcaI/AAAAAAAAIl0/qAss6DwMkpg/s1600/IMG_6784.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g1axExot4EM/VlYcCV4zcaI/AAAAAAAAIl0/qAss6DwMkpg/s640/IMG_6784.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This pattern is a Very Easy Vogue and it is easy.... if your sewing machine cooperates with you! Mine didn't. It was skipping stitches like crazy when I was trying to topstitch. I knew that my machine was long overdue for a tune up so off the repair shop it went. The next morning, the shop called and Andre, (aka sewing machine guru) told me that my problem with stitching this fabric was the needle I was using! WHAT!? That's it!? I needed a larger denim needle with this fabric because the fabric is spongy and closes in on the needle before the thread has a chance to catch. Problem solved. New needle paired with the walking foot and I was back in business. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Note to self... replenish needle stash.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ql-xa9jvAvc/VlYTam-ezwI/AAAAAAAAIkM/Tc8seIMYpdk/s1600/IMG_6916.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ql-xa9jvAvc/VlYTam-ezwI/AAAAAAAAIkM/Tc8seIMYpdk/s640/IMG_6916.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XDmoN-EOEeM/VlYTSVJfHDI/AAAAAAAAIk0/mPKTRPqJCrA/s1600/IMG_6980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XDmoN-EOEeM/VlYTSVJfHDI/AAAAAAAAIk0/mPKTRPqJCrA/s640/IMG_6980.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love the look of the hood but in truth, I will likely never wear it up. If you have seen the model picture, you know why. It's just not a good look when the fabric drapes like this one does.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SF011ZcIXzQ/VlYVaKxNokI/AAAAAAAAIk8/jh6bqzS3Pug/s1600/IMG_6827.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SF011ZcIXzQ/VlYVaKxNokI/AAAAAAAAIk8/jh6bqzS3Pug/s640/IMG_6827.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the lining, I thought I would really step all the way out of my comfort zone and chose an animal print satin polyester. I NEVER wear animal print. Like. EVER. What is happening to me?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, you know what? I love it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b17faDYlbE8/VlYbyYFJqYI/AAAAAAAAIf0/t-eKjA2LZHU/s1600/IMG_6883.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b17faDYlbE8/VlYbyYFJqYI/AAAAAAAAIf0/t-eKjA2LZHU/s640/IMG_6883.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All said and done, I am really loving this coat and look forward to finding different ways to style it for everyday looks. I not sure that I am finished with this fabric and may head back to Fabricville for more. Black Friday's sale would be a good reason to make another fabric purchase...right? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
**disclaimer** Fabricville gifted the fabric and pattern of my choosing for this coat..wasn't that nice?! All opinions are my own...I have many. And there are no affiliate links in this post.</div>

If you come to my house for a visit, I will always ask if I can take your coat but then I'll just turn around and hang it on the banister...wanna know why? My front closet is full...embarrassingly full of my coats. No one else's...just mine. There is no possible way I could fit yours in there. I know that I could purge the collection but then how could I call it an obsession...? I have mentioned my coat obsession way back in <a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2012/11/coats-copy-cats-and-cattle-conversations.html" target="_blank">year one of my blogging journey</a>....some things never change!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Cause here I have gone and made another one. A good one if I do say so myself.... I love this fabric! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For this coat, I used <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-12251-burda-style-jackets-coats-vests.aspx" target="_blank">Burda 6772</a>. I love the design of this coat but like many others...found the instructions lacking. I was also lacking some much needed sleep at the time so that didn't help but I did manage to get through it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm not a fan of a CB seam but wanted to ensure a good fit so I did my best to print match. I'm pleased with the result.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I opted to used self fabric covered buttons and large snaps. Bound button holes would have been ideal but I desperately wanted this coat to turn out and the possibility of me messing them up was highly likely at the time. Sometimes you just have to play it safe.</div>

<br />
I chose a black Kasha lining. I think I have mentioned my love for this lining before when I used it in my <a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2015/01/added-warmth-in-mccalls-6656.html" target="_blank">McCalls 6656</a> coat. This flannel backed lining adds warmth without bulk, perfect for a dress coat.<br />

I don't want to bore you with another one of the capes I have made but....I think that this might be my favorite! I love the pop of white this plaid has. The fabric has a brushed side, that I chose to be the right side. It is just the perfect weight to wear for the mild fall we are having.</div>

I thought I should show what the cape looks like when not worn so you have a better idea how to put one together. I cut a 70 cm by 140 cm rectangle and folded it in half. (The fold is worn down one arm.) Then I inserted a 50 cm separating coiled zipper starting from the edge, leaving a neck opening close to the fold. I topstitched the two opposite sides and frayed the edges. Easy peasy!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I love a great dramatic garment and my pinterest boards certainly indicate this. Sometimes though, I just know when too much is too much and things have to be reeled in just a bit. That was the case here.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0KvhCH2A1fs/VjV1ohcMl-I/AAAAAAAAIR4/TRyc7hprZOo/s1600/IMG_6282.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0KvhCH2A1fs/VjV1ohcMl-I/AAAAAAAAIR4/TRyc7hprZOo/s640/IMG_6282.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made this sleeveless blazer about five years ago....back when they were still called vests. I was enrolled in a tailoring class and was told I needed a vest pattern for the class. At the time, I was quite perturbed, a vest for a tailoring class?! I wanted a full blazer...with sleeves...to learn it allllll! I will not go into a rant about my disappointment in this and other classes I have taken at the local art college... BUT let me just say this, it was a waste of my time and money! I have learned so much more from fellow sewists online and through online classes and tutorials. I am so proud of this community and the quality of skills that is shared...for free! That is true passion. Ok...I'm done. I'm feeling just a little angry about it...all over again...maybe that's why it has taken me so long to write about this make.... Husband will surely be calling it the Angry Vest after reading this post. lol </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ok. Now I'm really done.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I choose <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v1214-products-13203.php" target="_blank">V1214, an Alice and Olivia</a> pattern. I remember choosing this one because it had pockets and I loved the lines of the back. The class instructor said my choice was too difficult....ughhh!!!! IT'S A TAILORING CLASS! (oops sorry, I fell of the wagon, won't happen again).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The pattern called for godets in the back and I felt that they were just a bit too much for me. So I omitted them. Pretended those pieces didn't even exist, like my class instructor by the third night...oops I lied.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W-VkV1mQXMw/VjV1qOKdYxI/AAAAAAAAIRA/0VivujUzAL8/s1600/IMG_6305.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W-VkV1mQXMw/VjV1qOKdYxI/AAAAAAAAIRA/0VivujUzAL8/s640/IMG_6305.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This pattern called for lots of topstitching and I remember enjoying that part. I think that I should have used a heavier interfacing for the front band because I find that it went a wee bit wavy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
For the lining, I used a Bemberg in gray. I find Bemberg so fiddly when sewing with it but I love the finished product so much that it's worth the effort. I didn't put closures on the front band because I knew I would likely wear it open and on the odd occasion that I wanted to wear it closed, I wore a belt.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I like the paired down version of this pattern and think that without the full godets in the back, the subtle details and design lines are able to shine.</div>

I just want to say... I love the sewing community both online and off. The support I feel and I see given to others is outstanding. oh...and sorry about the rant...</div>

Recognize this pattern? It's <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8278-products-6703.php?page_id=856" target="_blank">Vogue 8278.</a>..again. I thought it might be a good idea to continue the knit sewing trend..I like to make things more than once just to make sure it wasn't a fluke that it turned out the first time. Again, this pattern was super easy to make and if you can get your hands on a copy...make it! As much as I loved making this pattern, I love this fabric even more. It is soooo soft!! I can't remember the content, I'm sure that it is some sort of poly but I couldn't care less. It just feels so good. </div>

I had enough of this fabric to make a longer sash this time but still not enough to have any choice with the pattern placement. I think it looks fine and I'm not sure having more fabric would have made it any better. I am pleased that the navy section of the fabric ended up closer to my face...it's just a better color on me and kind of makes it look like a yoke. Both good things.</div>

Here you can see the color palette up close. I have paired this with my navy cardigan on cooler days and can foresee wearing this dress a lot.</div>

So there you have it...two knit projects. I am feeling pretty good about myself and want to continue to sew up some knits.</div>

With the arrival of fall comes my craving for plaid, chunky scarves, boots and all things cozy. That being said, some fall days start out chilly then turn warm throughout the day, leaving me overdressed and peeling off layers. This cape is the perfect weight for some warmth and then folds up neatly to fit in my purse if I have to take it off.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Have any of you jumped on the cape bandwagon? I have bought a total of three patterns for them this season and then went ahead and made this one without using any of them. The pattern for this is a rectangle folded in half with a zipper inserted into one side. The dimensions for those of you interested.... 70 cm by 140 cm rectangle. I love how the neckline folds into a side cowl when I put it on. I noticed later in these pictures that one side was longer that the other and immediately fixed it. The first is always a bit of trial and error I guess. The next three...yes I made three... were perfect.<br />

I have been following Gillian of Crafting a Rainbow's Project for Better Pictures...so <a href="https://craftingarainbow.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Gillian</a>, these pictures are for you. This is my lame attempt at capturing movement. A cape doesn't twirl very well so I resorted to jumping. Jumping with long hair doesn't make pretty pictures but could I get extra points for 1... doing it in four inch heels without landing on my face and 2...doing so in front of strangers....can you see those people walking in the background? You can see that they are stepping off the sidewalk to avoid me and my picture taking antics. People are just nice like that here...lol.</div>

So...this will not be the last cape you see from me... I'm kinda obsessed right now.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: red;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: red;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: red;">Update</span>: So...I have published this already but felt compelled to come back and update it by sharing the conversation I just had with Husband...<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Husband: "Did you get a post up?"</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Me: "Yes"</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Husband: "What did you call it?"</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Me: "Plaid Cape. Kinda boring huh?"</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Husband: "Yeah...you should have called it 'The Poncho Of Destiny'."</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
????</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Should Husband name all my posts? Hmmm...</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have said it many times...I'm not a fan of sewing knits...especially the slippery, slinky wants to run away from you kind. But my past, more optimistic, "It's a New Year, let's throw caution to the wind and make all the promises" self thought it would be a good idea to write a<a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2015/01/happy-new-year.html" target="_blank"> reflective post </a>and in that same post include some sewing goals for the upcoming year. Among those goals was one to sew more knits. Did anyone else make these kinds of promises? Are you keeping them? If you wrote a similar post too, go have a look at what you wrote...or don't...I wish I hadn't. I am way behind on that list...way behind.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Back to knits...wearing them is AWESOME. So comfy. Some genius coined the phrase..."secret pajamas"...and it is so true! I have sewn with a stable knit ponte and thought it was time to try another knit, the sweater knit. It wasn't as bad as I thought but it probably helped that I choose a very simple pattern, <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8278-products-6703.php?page_id=856" target="_blank">V8278</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V8278.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V8278.jpg" height="640" width="606" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This pattern is now out of print but I'm sure that there are others available like it. I cut out both front and back on the fold, eliminating the CB seam. This left four seams to be sewn and the hemming, which was made simple with my coverstitch. Easy peasy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
With barely a meter of this fabric, I wasn't left with much to make the tie but worked it out. I may have stretched out the neckline as I hemmed it but it is still fine. Any tips to avoid stretching it?</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9EogehodSF4OY2NkDUA3ZLj8FjoFWId68lP6xCjXrDIhi-fSSYGOhixUHM02XKbf6KulaulJ_KU-X5Ugr2L-NOL31kHR-_vuvcZRh5iugrZDxMy-zmeJhEVlpY2m0XpbLcMWcGkph5ucI/s1600/IMG_6170.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9EogehodSF4OY2NkDUA3ZLj8FjoFWId68lP6xCjXrDIhi-fSSYGOhixUHM02XKbf6KulaulJ_KU-X5Ugr2L-NOL31kHR-_vuvcZRh5iugrZDxMy-zmeJhEVlpY2m0XpbLcMWcGkph5ucI/s640/IMG_6170.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think this dress is perfect for fall, especially when the days are still warm. I don't feel as though I am dressed for summer but I'm not sweltering in the heat either. It can be tough during the fall to balance seasonally appropriate with weather appropriate. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To say that I love how this dress turned out is an understatement....I think it looks great, it feels nice on and it wasn't a big deal to make... so what took me so long???</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Can we talk about this print for a moment? It has a kind of chevron stripe to it, with a hint of a floral in some areas. I love it...but it is very hard to describe...does anyone have a name for it? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JHnev_7DdUk/VcqHGJmd8vI/AAAAAAAAG8E/eCgJ5R3ZqoM/s1600/IMG_4935.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JHnev_7DdUk/VcqHGJmd8vI/AAAAAAAAG8E/eCgJ5R3ZqoM/s640/IMG_4935.JPG" width="394" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I probably didn't need another black dress in my wardrobe but when I came across this ponte...well I couldn't resist. I initially thought I would make a skirt with my trusted M6706 but I knew that it would be great it if I could place the cutouts on the bodice of a dress as well as the skirt. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KBUneJmvRmQ/VcqHH8_5KEI/AAAAAAAAG9w/EfJb6HwzBKk/s1600/IMG_4966.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KBUneJmvRmQ/VcqHH8_5KEI/AAAAAAAAG9w/EfJb6HwzBKk/s640/IMG_4966.JPG" width="408" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the skirt portion, I used <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v1353-products-46629.php?page_id=174" target="_blank">V1353</a> because it is great for a border print and it uses fabric so efficiently. For the bodice, I was looking for a boat neck style and I used <a href="http://butterick.mccall.com/b4443-products-5395.php" target="_blank">Butterick 444</a>3. I didn't like the sleeves of this pattern so I used <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-5485-misses-dresses.aspx" target="_blank">Newlook 6000</a>. Yup...that's a total of three patterns!<br />
<br />
I would have liked if I could have matched up the seams of the bodice to the pleats of the skirt but by the time I realized that this wasn't going to happen I had everything cut out. Yet again, I got excited about a project and jumped right in without checking the water first.<br />
Oh well....wearing a belt helps to hide it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QY4NlHOb4jg/VcqHIuTjWLI/AAAAAAAAG-A/Ru6EHH_lcX0/s1600/IMG_4973.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QY4NlHOb4jg/VcqHIuTjWLI/AAAAAAAAG-A/Ru6EHH_lcX0/s640/IMG_4973.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kHvFnjKp_fk/VcqHUhXMH_I/AAAAAAAAG-I/_rW6x2qVthc/s1600/IMG_4980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kHvFnjKp_fk/VcqHUhXMH_I/AAAAAAAAG-I/_rW6x2qVthc/s640/IMG_4980.JPG" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I didn't face the neckline because I really couldn't due to the cutouts so I ran a line of very short stitches along the edge to reinforce it. I have worn this dress many times...and washed it without any problems. It held up very well.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W4QHhdyN20M/VcqHuRa0n2I/AAAAAAAAG-g/7CDMET-jxuc/s1600/IMG_5007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W4QHhdyN20M/VcqHuRa0n2I/AAAAAAAAG-g/7CDMET-jxuc/s640/IMG_5007.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eMld9AglTn4/VcqHuVwdKjI/AAAAAAAAG-o/DKRWW9xnF8c/s1600/IMG_5020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eMld9AglTn4/VcqHuVwdKjI/AAAAAAAAG-o/DKRWW9xnF8c/s640/IMG_5020.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-15-P_3HyPHE/VcqHgykjPqI/AAAAAAAAG-Y/K-YkqODXOPM/s1600/IMG_4983.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-15-P_3HyPHE/VcqHgykjPqI/AAAAAAAAG-Y/K-YkqODXOPM/s640/IMG_4983.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Some makes become instant favorites and this is one of them. It was fun to throw caution to the wind and combine three patterns to make a dress. But to have it turn out as well as I hoped is such a bonus!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I am really late in sharing this dress...late as in I made it two years ago and now late in the summer. I made this dress for a trip south and had the best intentions to photograph on a beautiful beach but...it didn't happen. Guess you will have to settle for my driveway catwalk again.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghXsMcBEq4aMPGjpSRfLUkKt_Pck-5SuMQzyNojBU9ENsqQFCOnG9rIx6bbei9LTPzxkCFV785yGka4cpLB9Z-o_eAuo-Evp3BB5MCcxwo2s27VT4qIqIR8yPGHA5_zAH3MIhun9XeZCEE/s1600/IMG_4492.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghXsMcBEq4aMPGjpSRfLUkKt_Pck-5SuMQzyNojBU9ENsqQFCOnG9rIx6bbei9LTPzxkCFV785yGka4cpLB9Z-o_eAuo-Evp3BB5MCcxwo2s27VT4qIqIR8yPGHA5_zAH3MIhun9XeZCEE/s640/IMG_4492.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used two patterns to make this dress. The bodice is B4443 and the skirt is Simplicity 1590. The fit isn't the best on this one and some boning should probably have been added to the bodice. Despite this, it stays put and is fine for a comfy summer maxi.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The fabric is a chiffon in the prettiest watercolor floral print, lined with a textured cotton voile that makes this dress feel so nice to wear. </div>

Since I am posting a maxi dress, I thought that I would give you an update on the <a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2015/06/the-highs-and-lows.html" target="_blank">V8870</a> dress that I changed from a high low to a maxi. I had a bit of trouble getting some more of this fabric but found some on a visit to another city three hours away. Husband wanted to go to a new hunting fishing store that opened and of course he suggested we make a fabric stop as well. Smart man! I spotted the fabric and was in and out if the store in under ten minutes. Smart man is now shocked! I didn't need or want to look at anything else...I had my fabric!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I made pants...<a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2015/01/happy-new-year.html" target="_blank">.remember back when I said that I wanted to make more pants.</a>..well I kept good on that resolution. Albeit...they are more like pajama pants...but they are pants nonetheless. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I feel kinda chic in this pajama pant jumpsuit. <b>Instructions: </b> This is a fairly simple make... </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">

<b>Changes I made: </b>I may have mentioned here before that I am fairly long waisted...but somehow I forgot this... again... After attaching the bodice to the pants, I proceeded to try it on...that sucker wasn't going over my shoulders no matter how much I tried to wiggled myself in! Off it came...I recovered from an awful wedgie.... and out came the seam ripper. Ughh. I didn't have enough fabric left to cut a new bodice so I made an 1 1/2 " waist band/casing for the elastic which gave me the perfect amount of extra length I needed in the bodice. The print of this fabric hides the waistband really well...</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<b style="background-color: transparent; text-align: center;">Repeat worthy?</b><span style="background-color: transparent; text-align: center;"> Fer sure!!! I really want the shorts version in a printed challis or rayon. I know that I should be sewing more for fall now..and I am..but with the warm weather continuing, I'm tempted to let this baby jump the sewing queue in the shorts version.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm not sure what to call this make....a kimono..duster...jacket....bath robe....vest...beach cover up? It has become all those things to me. I have worn this everywhere! I wake up in the morning and just put it on. Everyday. ok...that may be a bit of an exaggeration...but not far off.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made it using <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m7200-products-50370.php?page_id=115" target="_blank">McCalls 7200</a>. I love the look of a Kimono style top and when I found this print I knew what pattern to turn to. My obsession with patterns serves me well this way. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made view A and the only change I made was adding 20 inches to the length. That was it! So easy. I added so much to the length that I didn't have enough fabric for the facing so I used a navy and white floral that I had in my stash. I didn't get picture of it....sorry.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wanted to wear it with navy shorts and forgot that I had made these...I felt that they were perfect for this look. You can see the original post <a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2014/07/ahoy-sailor-shorts.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>

This kimono goes perfectly with my high waisted two piece bathing suit. I made the bottoms and a couple others like it about three years ago but have never blogged about them. I love a high waist bikini and this nautical one is my absolute favorite bathing suit ever! I actually made two of them...I'm at the beach a lot. Maybe I will one day share how I made them in a post....</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Have you ever had one of those days that started out kinda crummy then turned into AWESOMENESS! I had one of those just the other day. I won't get into the crummy part cause who really wants to hear that.... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I was out and about with daughter no 2...getting some things together to send her off to school. We planned to get some blog photos after we finished but ran out of time, she had to run off to work. Bummer. Right? We all know how hard it is to get photos and I got all dolled up for these ones....ugh.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My luck turned when I ran into<a href="http://www.lion-hunter.com/blog/" target="_blank"> this amazing woman</a>....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm always happy to see her, we chat about fabric and blog stuff...so already my day was on an up swing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just stop now and go check her out! Then come back...of course!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mo is amazingly talented and stylish! I love everything she wears and she wears her style with such confidence and flair. The girl can rock a tutu like no one I know. Want to know her creds... </div>

She is also the creator of <a href="http://clutchculture.com/" target="_blank">Clutch Couture</a> and sells her amazing skirts at <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheTUTUExperience" target="_blank">The Tutu Experience on Etsy</a>. If you want to know some great places to eat when you are here in Halifax then definitely check out Mo's blog...and Instagram <a class="g-profile" href="https://plus.google.com/102539580239158786463" target="_blank">+misslionhunter</a> We are so lucky to have her living right here in our beautiful city!</div>

Ok so on with my story... I ran into her and she told me I looked great and that I must be shooting for the blog today. I said yes, that was the plan but that my daughter didn't have time. So what does Mo do? SHE OFFERS TO TAKE MY PICS! Isn't she the sweetest! Just watch me jump all over that! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thank you Mo for taking these pics for me! I'm sorry for being such a derp... when I looked at the pics I was a bit glazed over and stood there like a stature, hardly moving at all! You picked such a great location and the composition was spot on but your model was... Queen Derp! I'll do better next time...promise!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Now on to my top... I made this McCalls 7133 top in a tropical print and was surprised at how much I liked it. So I knew that another one was going to be immediately moved up in the sewing queue. I have this gorgeous navy blue lace in my stash and with its lovely scalloped edge, I knew it would make a pretty crop top. Once again, I removed the center back seam and moved the zipper to the side seam, inserting it upside down like my last one. I used the scalloped edge for the hemline and I love how it looks in contrast with my <a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2013/09/copy-cat-challenge-2-times-2.html" target="_blank">ivory lace skirt</a>.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
During the long grueling winter, I dreamed of hot summer days when I would need to have pretty dresses made from lovely fabrics like this voile to keep me cool... well I'm still waiting for summer to hit us full force. It has only been teasing us here and there. Whenever the sun does come out for a moment...I dash outdoors for a few blog pictures. </div>

<br />
I used <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v1344-products-44838.php?page_id=857" target="_blank">V1344</a> for this dress and made it exactly as per the pattern. I think that overall it looks pretty good. There are only a two issues that I may have with it... 1) I find that the voile combined with the batiste lining made this dress a little more bulky than I would have liked. I really wanted to line the voile because the white lining made the colors in the print pop so much more than without. 2) The shoulders can look a little bit Star Trekish... kinda pointy and full for me and my already broad shoulders.<br />

<br />
All that nit picking...but when I step back to look at it, I'm pleased with the overall look. I should be proud of good workmanship and quality. I do want to be honest with my readers for when they go to make the same pattern... but how far do you have to really go with it? Why do we pick apart our work so much? I know that I'm not the only one who does this. Time to stop. Time to say...<br />
I made this and it's great!<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sX_dXlhycxM/VbVYuS1kg9I/AAAAAAAAGzs/Ghi51wU-cMk/s1600/IMG_4658.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sX_dXlhycxM/VbVYuS1kg9I/AAAAAAAAGzs/Ghi51wU-cMk/s640/IMG_4658.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Hey hey! Look whose sporting black and white stripes again! I am really loving this heavy ponte and bought enough of it to make a dress...(which I did <a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2015/04/a-simple-return-with-mccalls-6886.html" target="_blank">here</a>) and have plenty left over to also make an asymmetrical skirt. My inspiration came from this skirt that I pinned on Pinterest. (the link goes nowhere...sorry)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6SRvvNJLdDqtV_UjKct3pi3qDBK0_Qo-UYfK_wdT5D40KjRE9U4jXo4LJWED-4nkNC45WnjH9_RmTMGDBCeSikGKSfccpe212rX83AYqy-hKNebGjZkW7aXOfiysRUreeTF8ciLZ2InW1/s1600/striped+skirt+on+pinterest.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6SRvvNJLdDqtV_UjKct3pi3qDBK0_Qo-UYfK_wdT5D40KjRE9U4jXo4LJWED-4nkNC45WnjH9_RmTMGDBCeSikGKSfccpe212rX83AYqy-hKNebGjZkW7aXOfiysRUreeTF8ciLZ2InW1/s320/striped+skirt+on+pinterest.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cute, isn't it!? I searched for a pattern but kept coming up short....but the more I studied this picture to make a pattern for myself the more I decided that it wasn't quite right for me. I felt that it was too short and that if I made it longer the two points would look odd right at my knees. Then I decided that I didn't really like the shape of the hemline at all and my desire to make it waned.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RDCmsCLNOHY/VbVYufr6CzI/AAAAAAAAGvw/i9Ds3nYzsG8/s1600/IMG_4659.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RDCmsCLNOHY/VbVYufr6CzI/AAAAAAAAGvw/i9Ds3nYzsG8/s640/IMG_4659.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/" target="_blank">Burdastyle</a> contacted me with an offer to try some of their patterns. I thought...oh yeah...Burdastyle... I had downloaded a free pattern from them way back when....I think maybe eight years ago. My daughter actually downloaded it and made a cute top. I thought is was cool but I'm always a late bloomer when it comes to technology. As you may have noticed, I don't tend to download and print many patterns but I am trying to because I do see the benefits! Pattern in my hands instantly! Hot off the presses when inspiration strikes! I could get into that!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have quite a few of their magazines, which I LOVE! The styling and sample garments are gorgeous! But, you know what's worse than taping a pattern together..? Tracing one from the mag.... my attention span and I just can't do it no matter how hard we try! So, I browsed their patterns and found so many that I liked....no surprise. I have seen so many beautiful makes by my fellow bloggers and I love their styling!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WNjgxP6mHQ0/VbVYyEkpahI/AAAAAAAAGzM/wi0doZ-Huhg/s1600/IMG_4667.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WNjgxP6mHQ0/VbVYyEkpahI/AAAAAAAAGzM/wi0doZ-Huhg/s640/IMG_4667.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I came across <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/bandeau-top-sarong-and-mini-skirt-052014" target="_blank">this pattern for a bikini top and sarong</a> I knew it would work for the skirt I wanted. The pattern is actually for an underskirt and separate sarong. I simply cut out the front and back pieces of the underskirt and the front piece of the sarong. I sewed the front piece of the sarong into the side seam of the underskirt and finished the waist with a wide soft elastic that turns to the inside. The skirt called for a side zip but I omitted it because this fabric had lots of stretch to accommodate pulling it on and off. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiXTfTDrKM-BDWUbVb_b3NkowkrIhId16sBa0sU8k77gttx-8fePZMfqQugkUBC10Pb8TRUf5i3LG_0TmBNloUCAUrZsauEPFQPgLYahpCKh_sHczN1Sn0KGPNmZ5T6FpJIKyB5_o8_juG/s1600/IMG_4405.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiXTfTDrKM-BDWUbVb_b3NkowkrIhId16sBa0sU8k77gttx-8fePZMfqQugkUBC10Pb8TRUf5i3LG_0TmBNloUCAUrZsauEPFQPgLYahpCKh_sHczN1Sn0KGPNmZ5T6FpJIKyB5_o8_juG/s320/IMG_4405.JPG" width="213" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWEFKv3PXVLhAQQVvRbkjv7QEloh-7OAHMErucT_sXHHaLoV8i9K6J05cm-txaiEAqaL3grxaWBhwkiE1sfMWQEqyS33WH_P0iYI59rXXG1NuStM9njBpAZkuW_-XSzMdFE7M7p9YjghhQ/s1600/IMG_4404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWEFKv3PXVLhAQQVvRbkjv7QEloh-7OAHMErucT_sXHHaLoV8i9K6J05cm-txaiEAqaL3grxaWBhwkiE1sfMWQEqyS33WH_P0iYI59rXXG1NuStM9njBpAZkuW_-XSzMdFE7M7p9YjghhQ/s320/IMG_4404.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
In these pictures, you can see where I played with the striped binding. The simpler one appealed to me more for some reason. I found that when I tried it on, the one with the stripes along the bottom made me look very boxy...not a flattering look. It had great hanger appeal but no body appeal for me.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
A few thoughts on Burdastyle patterns....I love the styling and sample garments! The pattern was easy to download and I printed it at my local office supply store. I jumped in two feet and cut out the pieces...totally forgetting to add the seam allowance!! Ahhhh!!!! I realized that this wasn't a problem because I wanted negative ease with this knit fabric. Whew. While I didn't use the instructions due to the changes I made...I did read through them. They made sense but I did miss having pictures to look at. I think that the final product is worth pushing through the instructions and most experienced sewers probably won't need more than the all text instructions. I have read other reviewers say that Burdastyle instructions are improved and I'm so glad because there are so many gorgeous patterns to try. If you want to try one of their patterns for yourself, this weekend <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/" target="_blank">Burdastyle</a> is having a Christmas in July sale. A great time to get great savings of 50% on featured fall patterns and instructional videos.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love the look of this new skirt! I have worn it so much already and I'm pretty pleased to have found a pattern that worked for it to go from inspiration to hanging in my closet. How much do you seek outside inspiration when you sew?</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Disclaimer: While I was gifted this pattern, I was free to choose the pattern I wanted to try. I also purchased my own fabric and all opinions are enthusiastically my own!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hey everyone! I'm kinda excited about this post...this little top has pulled me waaaaay out of my comfort zone! I started to make McCall's 7133 top on a whim, knowing that I would also make a VERY high waisted skirt to wear with it to hide the fact that it is a crop top. I just thought that I certainly couldn't pull off a crop top at my age.<br />
<br />
So I did just that, made the top and skirt. As you can see in the pictures below....meh.....<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R1TF3Tc7zjQ/VahZMoPplWI/AAAAAAAAGsw/DEniEiLt44I/s1600/IMG_4254.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R1TF3Tc7zjQ/VahZMoPplWI/AAAAAAAAGsw/DEniEiLt44I/s400/IMG_4254.JPG" width="266" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5-8dWWg8VM4njql5ONFG7hktT92se1auCMuOU31_c2xzy_g_vbV3Ir_LhLg-TfhXCQ9h31LEaFUpdIpaULhuuvsROAfqGFHP2cFAYGSSd-C2SjgvVZRUkJSuYo_sgMMvaA273-CQ__E00/s1600/IMG_4203.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5-8dWWg8VM4njql5ONFG7hktT92se1auCMuOU31_c2xzy_g_vbV3Ir_LhLg-TfhXCQ9h31LEaFUpdIpaULhuuvsROAfqGFHP2cFAYGSSd-C2SjgvVZRUkJSuYo_sgMMvaA273-CQ__E00/s400/IMG_4203.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yeah...not really loving it. Too much of this pattern, maybe? In hindsight, I think that a high waisted pencil skirt would have been better. I just find the whole ensemble overwhelming.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anywaaaays....moving on...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I thought, why not (for kicks) just try the top with my high waisted nautical jeans. Bam! I was surprised at how much I liked it and what surprised me even more was the confidence I had while wearing it! Who knew!? Another surprise was that my typically conservative hubby preferred the trousers over the skirt. He thought the skirt was too matchy matchy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
well paaardoooon me....call the fashion police</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So on to the pattern.... and my review.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<b>Pattern: </b>McCalls 7133</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<b>Fabric used: </b>A tropical print cotton sateen.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<b>Instructions: </b>The instructions were great. This is rated as easy and I found that to be true. It isn't lined which was nice for a summer top and much easier to sew.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<b>Changes I made: </b>I removed the center back seam. I keep making this change to my makes lately...I REALLY don't like unnecessary CB seams. I used an invisible zipper in the side seam instead of the back. I can easily pull the top on and off and it just made much more sense to move the zip.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<b>Repeat worthy: </b>Yes! I am already planning a navy blue one!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
The skirt is McCalls 6706. Any of you following me for a while, know that I have made this skirt many times before and can head over to<a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/p/gallery.html" target="_blank"> my gallery</a> to find one and a review for it.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After I tried the jeans, I thought I would try my wide legged, high waisted, off white pants. I think this outfit would be perfect for our next trip south. It has a tropical vibe to it and I can totally see myself wearing it to dinner in a resort setting.</div>

So...may I ask... pants or matchy matchy skirt? What if I remade the skirt into a high waisted pencil skirt? Would that be better than the full skirt?<br />
I like the jeans and hubby likes the white pants. What do you think? I'm also open to more styling ideas if you have any! I'm thinking...my lace<a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2013/09/copy-cat-challenge-2-times-2.html" target="_blank"> Copy Cat skirt</a> or maybe I'll really go all out and pair it with culottes like the pattern! Now we are really stepping outside the comfort zone!<br />
<br />
What kind of garments would be outside of your comfort zone?<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This dress.... I love it...I don't love it...I love it.... I don't love it....and on it goes! I really like the fabric... it is a blue and white floral with very subtle polka dots in the blue background. Does it get any better!? All my favorite things in one fabric! The bodice of <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8870-products-44842.php?page_id=856" target="_blank">Vogue 8870</a> is great... it's the hemline that I'm fighting with.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TsgmxqbnKQ0/VYyFzO52L9I/AAAAAAAAGm4/x5v1qkzMSy4/s1600/IMG_4172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TsgmxqbnKQ0/VYyFzO52L9I/AAAAAAAAGm4/x5v1qkzMSy4/s640/IMG_4172.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I thought I would like a high-low hem but I wish that I had made it into a maxi. I would have worn and loved this as a maxi dress. I don't want to go buy more fabric and take it apart so I think I will first try to trim the hemline like view A. Maybe the less severe high-low version will be more to my liking.</div>

<b>Repeat worthy? </b>Yes! The bodice of this dress is perfect for a summer sundress and I like the twin straps. You could very easily change the straps into one single wide one for more bra strap coverage. Next time I make this I will cut the skirt into a maxi...which shouldn't be too hard.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uVXDYYgK79U/VYdAhUlU5MI/AAAAAAAAGic/t9w5zfF0x8s/s1600/IMG_3816.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uVXDYYgK79U/VYdAhUlU5MI/AAAAAAAAGic/t9w5zfF0x8s/s640/IMG_3816.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can't seem to keep myself from making pretty dresses...I am quite practical in other areas of my life... really I am. But when I come across such a pretty and painterly print...it just begged to be made into a dress. Another dress...like my closet needs another dress. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On the topic of practicality... if you want to make a great fit and flare dress that doesn't require a copious amount of fabric or wastage...this is the one. <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v1353-products-46629.php?page_id=174" target="_blank">Vogue 1353</a>. Go ahead and look...no... wait I'll save you the trouble...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V1353.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V1353.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Whoa!!! Oh Vogue...you make it so hard to love your patterns sometimes! It was pretty easy to pass this one over...until I took a closer look at the line drawings and then the yardage. The yardage was the clincher for me....this beauty only requires 1.4 m! (1 1/2 yards for those of you in the US) Granted, that doesn't include lining but if you are anything like me, you probably already have some that you found on sale stored in the stash. Finding patterns that use less fabric and have less waste has been a goal for me lately. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My most favorite dress Simplicity 2444 calls for 1.5m just for the skirt! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Needless to say...I'm hooked on this new favorite.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<b>Pattern: </b>Vogue 1353</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<b>Fabric used: </b>The prettiest stretch cotton sateen.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<b>Instructions: </b>I found this pattern to be quite easy to put together. No problems that I recall.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<b>Changes I made: </b>I added 2.5 inches to the length and just did a turn and hem at the bottom. I found it to be too short for me. Next time I may consider going down a size...I'm not sure though. I think that this particular fabric may have stretched somewhat while making it. I may have been a bit too zealous in my pressing. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">
<b>Repeat worthy? </b>Yes! I love that this dress uses fabric frugally and it has some lovely details like bodice pleating and bust darts. My only wish....pockets! I added pockets originally but removed them after an initial fit test because I thought that the dress was going to be tighter and I didn't want the pockets to be pulled open. In hindsight, I should have left the pockets because there is plenty of room for them! Oh well... lesson learned and of course I could always add them still! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hey Everyone! I have made another Burda 6849 shirt...a chambray shirt. A chambray with POLKA DOTS shirt! Yes..polka dots!<br />
<br />
Let me ask you....when you decide on a sewing project what comes first? The pattern or the fabric? I'm pretty sure we all have a different process when it comes down to it. Sometimes it is the need to fill a gap in a me made wardrobe...so the pattern comes first and I am on the hunt for the perfect fabric. Other times I'm in the fabric store and just HAVE TO HAVE THAT FABRIC! I have no idea what I'm going to make and my enormous stash is proof that this scenario happens most frequently for me.<br />
This time was a little different though...it was like having twins. I saw the fabric and knew exactly which pattern I was going to use. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L8JVi26W3aw/VVkYrTa2lrI/AAAAAAAAGaQ/2fkXJAhRLQ0/s1600/IMG_3544.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L8JVi26W3aw/VVkYrTa2lrI/AAAAAAAAGaQ/2fkXJAhRLQ0/s640/IMG_3544.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WJWFeTgEFRM/VVkYrb4mRRI/AAAAAAAAGY4/NbBTGoCWgAY/s1600/IMG_3555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WJWFeTgEFRM/VVkYrb4mRRI/AAAAAAAAGY4/NbBTGoCWgAY/s640/IMG_3555.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know that the <a href="http://creatinginthegap.blogspot.ca/2015/02/pink-plaid.html" target="_blank">last time I made this shirt</a> I said I would try the Archer but I do like the fit of this one. The length works well for me and I can see me wearing it as a kind of jacket over t-shirts or dresses for cooler summer evenings. I also like the narrow sleeve and this shirt fits me well across my wider shoulders. If a pattern fits so well without any alterations, why wouldn't I make it again?</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dJyqrbj9eIU/VVkYscYfe4I/AAAAAAAAGZI/R68nbl3ZZ64/s1600/IMG_3560.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dJyqrbj9eIU/VVkYscYfe4I/AAAAAAAAGZI/R68nbl3ZZ64/s640/IMG_3560.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I won't go into a full review of this shirt but will say that I added the pocket flaps this time. My topstitching is ok but I think it could be better. I also used buttons despite my previous love for pearl snaps. I didn't want the closures to stand out too much on this shirt so navy buttons were used.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vxApsGDL-XM/VVkYs-sLtvI/AAAAAAAAGaI/qItlz00sx7c/s1600/IMG_3567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vxApsGDL-XM/VVkYs-sLtvI/AAAAAAAAGaI/qItlz00sx7c/s640/IMG_3567.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wore it here with simple white shorts but there are so many ways to wear a chambray shirt and I will wear it all summer long!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
