Sewing Organization (Part 1)

I like patterns...I like to have a lot of patterns. Some of them I have made up and others are still patiently waiting for their turn. When I shared the pictures of my new sewing space, my patterns could been seen in neat little plastic totes. Looks good right?

Yeah weeeell..... here is the reality
....and this really isn't as bad as things usually get.

When I'm looking for a pattern or I am trying to decide which pattern to use, I make a big mess and it's never contained to my sewing space. No. I like to spread the love and spread it all over the family room coffee table. And sofa. And couch. And floor.
So,while perusing Pinterest yet again for inspiration... it occurred to me, " Why don't I have a board for my patterns?". Yeah, why don't I? Well, now I do. You can go see it here.

I couldn't find all my patterns and so I had to upload some of them myself. It is not quite finished but I am well on my way.  I would like to go back and mark each pattern pin and indicate whether or not I have made it or not. That should help me bust this pattern stash to bits! Kapooow!
The entire project may have taken some time to do but was worth it. I can now go to this board and view all of my patterns at once. During the process, I was also able to evaluate what I had in  my collection and whether I needed it or not. I have a few that I would like to share with you. They are all uncut patterns and in great condition. I just can't see myself making them anytime soon.

                                Newlook 6647(size8-18)                     Newlook 6023(size 6-16)

It will be first come first serve for these patterns, so if you would like to add any of these to your collection just leave me a comment with your email and choice of pattern, then I will get it off to you! No matter where in this world you sew your stuff!

New Year... New Sewing Space!

Happy New Year!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
Things may have been a wee bit quiet here on the blog but not at all in "real " life! Holiday fun with the family has taken priority as well as my Grandpa being in the hospital for a month have made for a busy season.
So,due to this business I haven't been sewing much lately but that isn't the only reason.... I had a sewing flop. You know the kind of project that you have very high hopes for and then realize about a third of the way through that it's just not going to work out the way you want but you trudge along, much like this run-on sentence, hoping that it will by some miracle become the beautiful creation you dreamed of....
Well, it has put me in a sewing funk. Instead of completely giving up, I decided that I needed a new sewing space and set about to make it happen.

(Here is a sneak peek of the above mentioned "flop"...)

As you can see, I moved to the laundry room. Not the most ideal situation with a family of five to do laundry for but it has motivated me to keep up on the laundry so I don't have to look at it ...or smell it!
I hung up a very large magnetic dry erase board which I have found to be very useful! I use it to hang display pattern instructions or pattern pieces as I use them and make notes for myself. I always like to have my favorite pocket pattern pieces within reach...you know how I love my pockets!

Although...I must say that the bound button holes turned out lovely. I worked hard on them and learned a great deal in the process. So all is not lost! I may not give up on this coat quite yet.....

I made the cutest little button magnets for the magnetic board by gluing magnets to large odd buttons. In the picture on the right you can see a special gift from my mom. She had saved my first attempts at sewing and just this year framed them for me. I was four years old when I sewed these buttons. This was one of those gifts that made me cry like a child when I opened it...
The laundry room area has a beautiful ocean view and warm morning sunshine. I have some finishing touches to make on it but it is well on it's way to being a great space!

MMM Day 10 Sewing Space

T shirt:self-made Jeans:Merona thrifted&refashioned to skinnies Cardigan:Mercer&Madison

A sneak peek of my current project.

Today's theme in the Me Made May challenge is a picture of our sewing space. We have outgrown our home just a little.... so my sewing space has been relocated to the front entry..yes that is my front door. Our living room is to the right of the picture and I use the dining room table to cut. I drag my ironing board in and out daily and my stash is stored in bins in the basement. The pros of this space is that I have to be tidy and organized but the con is that is soooo hard for someone like me who is a natural slob during the creating process. Like seriously...a slob!! (I cleaned up for this pic)
Husband and I argue about finishing a sewing space in the basement for me... he wants to and I would prefer to wait...the house will sadly be too big for us once again and I will have my pick of many lovely rooms. For now, I'll enjoy being in the center of the house where our teens can easily find me and sit and chat with me while I sew.
